City Centre Chaplaincy

The History of the Chaplaincy

The Chaplaincy grew out of various part-time chaplaincies organised by the churches in the centre of Bristol. Starting in 1985 the work was developed by the Bristol City Centre Ministry Committee. Initially it was funded by a grant from the Baptist Union.

The Bristol City Centre Chaplaincy Trust, representing a partnership of the city centre churches and the business community, was established in 1997 to ensure continued funding and to support the main object of the Trust; the provision of one or more Christian chaplains to serve the business community in the City of Bristol, their employees and families.

In the autumn of 2018 the trustees reluctantly concluded that due to lack of funding there would be no further appointment.
